Southeast Ohio Classical Academy is one of many schools across the nation to partner with Hillsdale College’s BCSI Initiative, a program to establish and sustain classical liberal arts education throughout the United States. Like all of the highly successful Hillsdale-affiliated schools, SOCA emphasizes intellectual rigor, character formation, and responsible citizenship. We accomplish our goals through great books, time-tested methods, and teacher-led classrooms.

Curriculum Map

Through our partnership with the Hillsdale Barney Charter School Initiative, we offer a content-rich curriculum that helps ensure that a student’s learning is integrated between subjects and across grade levels.

Hillsdale K-12 Curriculum

Southeast Ohio Classical Academy is part of the nationwide network of over 25 tuition-free Hillsdale College K-12 initiative schools. Hillsdale College’s K-12 content-rich curriculum has an emphasis upon the four core disciplines of math, science, literature, and history, with attention to music, art, physical education, and foreign languages. Southeast Ohio Classical Academy focuses on intellectual rigor, human virtue, moral character, and responsible citizenship.

K-8 Curriculum Highlights

Here at SOCA we emphasize a classical education in the humanities, the sciences, and the arts using several research-based curricula/programs in the elementary and middle schools, which include:

The Core Knowledge Sequence (Note that this is not Common Core)
Explicit Phonics: a program based on Orton-Gillingham research and methods
Singapore Math (a traditional approach to mathematical skill building and problem solving)
Integrated Fine Arts and Music programs
Reading the Classics in literature classes in grades K-12
Classical approach to the study of science
The study of Latin in Grades 6-9, with introduction of Latin and Greek roots in Grades 4-5
Grammar and Composition instruction in Grades 3-8

Final Enrollment Period Opens May 1st

Enrollment will reopen on May 1st for remaining seats in each grade level for the 2024-2025 school year. Beginning May 1st, remaining seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
